RGU’s placement advisory committee reviews activities of placement cell

RONO HILLS, Oct 24: The Placement Advisory Committee (PAD) of the Rajiv Gandhi University’s placement cell has reviewed the activities and functioning of the cell in its first round-table meeting held at the management building of the university here on Thursday.
RGU Vice Chancellor Prof Saket Kushwaha, who is the ex-officio chairman of the placement cell advisory committee, highlighted the aim and objective of the cell and appreciated the efforts of the cell under the leadership of its professor in-charge, Prof Tasi Kaye.
‘Placement of RGU students by leading recruiters in a short span under the placement cell is praiseworthy’, he said.
Earlier, Prof Kaye briefed about the powers and functions of the cell. He also highlighted the tripartite MoU entered between RGU, NERIST and NIT-AP, while RGU Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof Amitava Mitra, in his address, said, ‘It is high time the RGU started banking on its huge alumni base.’
RGU Registrar in-charge Prof Tomo Riba spoke on the importance of showcasing the product values of the university through different medium, and Dean Faculty of Basic Sciences Prof PK Kalita suggested that more job portals should be engaged to maximize the scope of placements of university students.
The Joint Registrar (Academic) of RGU and Convener of the Placement Advisory Committee Dr David Pertin dwelt on the importance of synchronizing the effort with both prospective and retrospective aspects to make it more wholesome, keeping in view proper documentation and record maintenance for different presentation purpose during the visits of peers like UGC’s NAAC and MHRD’s NIRF.
The committee also discussed many other issues pertaining to the growth of placement avenues for RGU products in a promising note.
Among others, Dean, Faculty of Education Prof Rachob Taba, Dean, Faculty of Languages, Prof Oken Lego, Dean, Students Welfare Prof Sumpam Tangjang, and all other members of the advisory committee attended the meeting.
The RGU’s placement cell was established recently under the initiative of the governor, who is also the chief rector of the RGU.
