SEPPA, Nov 6: To promote and impart the art of self-defense among girl children, the East Kameng District Samagra Shiksha Society, in collaboration with the Women &Child Development Department and East Kameng District Karate Association launched a three-day district level training on self-defense for girl students under integrated scheme for school education (ISSE) at the Nyokum ground here on 6 November.
Inaugurating the programme, East Kameng Deputy Commissioner Gaurav Singh Rajawat spoke on the benefits and advantages of self-defense.
Addressing girl students from different blocks of the district, the DC termed adolescence stage as the best learning period, and urged the participating students to explore the opportunity to its fullest. He also exhorted them to accord top-most priority to their education.
Also highlighting on the aims and objectives of the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao scheme, the DC appealed to the people
and all stakeholders to cooperate and coordinate in achieving the true goal of the scheme.
In order to instill a sense of participation amongst the participants, the DC has offered to confer three best-performing students with cash awards on completion of the training programme.
Speaking on the occasion, DRDA Project Director and EKSWCO chairman Dahey Sango expressed gratitude to the Education department for conducting the programme and exhorted the participants to grasp the opportunity at its fullest. Citing the benefits of the training programme, he urged the department to conduct such activities in regular interval with extended schedule.
Terming early marriage as a blot on any society, Sangno urged the girls to give equal importance to their education as well, besides other co-curricular activities.
Informing about the award being conferred recently by the Central Ministry of Women and Child Development, to the district, for being one of the best performing districts in the country in respect of sex ratio, ICDS DD W Thungon appreciated and expressed gratitude to the team of East Kameng, led by DC Rajawat and the public for their seamless support and cooperation.
Demonstration on basic steps and techniques of self-defense and karate by a team of East Kameng Karate Association were the highlights of the event.
DDSE Duken Kato, DIET Principal Kata Rangmo, WWO president Mone Taba, AEKDSU president Chakang Yangda and host of teachers and government officials of the Education and WCD departments were also present. (DIPRO)
