ITANAGAR, Nov 24: The Himalayan University’s (HU) law department observed ‘Constitution Day-cum-National Law Day’ in the university’s premises here on Saturday with a pledge to follow the fundamental duties enshrined in the constitution, and to become dutiful citizens.
Addressing the function, HU vice-chancellor Dr HS Sharma focused on the importance of Article 368 of the constitution, which empowers the parliament to amend the constitutional provisions.
“A document cannot be perfect all the time. It has to change according to the changing situation to fulfill the needs of the people, and also, a static constitution is a hurdle to the progress of the nation,” he said.
LLM first-year student Sonam Wangmu stood first in both essay writing and extempore speech competitions which were held as part of the event. A skit on the fundamental duties was presented by LLB second-year students.
Among others, students and faculty members of the HU’s law department were present on the occasion.
