Dist-level Hangpan Dada memorial tourneys underway

KHONSA, Nov 28: The 4th edition of the Tirap district-level Hangpan Dada Memorial Trophy Tournaments in football and volleyball for U-18 boys and girls got underway here on Thursday.
On the inaugural day, Khela FC beat Barap FC 5-3 through a penalty shootout in the girls’ football final.
In the boys’ football semifinals, Laho FC defeated Lamsa FC 1-0 in a penalty shootout, while Khela FC demolished Deomali FC 5-0.
In the boys’ volleyball final, the Kolam team defeated the Thinsa team, while the Barap KGBV defeated the Borduria team in the girls’ volleyball final.
Laho FC will face Khela FC in the football final on 29 November.
Earlier, addressing the inaugural function, DC PN Thungon urged the young sportspersons to be “proud of participating in such a prestigious tournament, as martyr Hangpan Dada belongs to Tirap district.”
The DC highlighted the life-story and the supreme sacrifice made by Dada while fighting against Pakistan-sponsored terrorists in Kashmir.
SP Kardak Riba in his address advised the players to “abstain from drugs, alcohol and any other narcotic substances that degrade their spirit and health.”
Veer nari Chasen Dada expressed gratitude to the state government for renaming the tournament from the Chief Minister Trophy to Hangpan Dada Memorial Trophy.
Meanwhile, the 4th edition of the tournaments began at West Siang HQ Aalo on Thursday, with the winners of three constituencies participating in football and volleyball matches at the government secondary school ground there. (DIPROs)
