NCST team reaches Tawang

TAWANG, Nov 28: National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) Chairman Nand Kumar Sai, along with NCST Joint Secretary Konthang Touthang, Assistant Director SP Meena and NCST members Harshadbhai Chunnilal Vasava and Hari Krishna Damor, reached here on Thursday on a two-day official tour.
The team held a meeting with GBs, public leaders, and members of civil society groups, women’s organizations, the Monpa Mimang Tsogpa and NGOs, during which the team was informed that while the people of Tawang have always maintained cordial relations with the Indian Army, the matter of providing compensation for the land being used for military purposes has not been resolved for long.
The other matters that were taken up with the NCST team were concerns over preservation and protection of the indigenous culture and tradition, good connectivity with alternative roads, expediting the construction of railways, airports, etc.
Sai expressed appreciation for the concern shown by the civil society bodies and others with regard to protecting and preserving their tradition and culture. He gave assurance that “important matters that were taken up by the house has been noted and will be taken up with the authorities concerned in a favourable way.” (DIPRO)
