PASIGHAT, Dec 14: Folk artistes from various states of the country presented colourful performances at Kiyit, Bilat, Mebo and Pasighat in East Siang district during the three-day ‘Discover North East – Cultural Yatra 2019’ programme, which concluded here on Friday.
The event was organized by the art & culture department and the district administration, in collaboration with the North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC), with the aim of promoting the folk art forms and performing arts, particularly among the young generation, and to take these rich art forms to the rural areas.
Addressing the function at IGJ government higher secondary school here on Friday, DC Kinny Singh said “such initiative helps in cultural interaction and creating awareness among the people and the young generation in particular about the vibrant and rich cultural heritage and art forms of their country.”
NEZCC Deputy Director M Senti Ao highlighted the centre’s aim “to develop and promote rich cultural diversity and cultural linkages among states to encourage folk and tribal arts, encourage and involve the youth in creative cultural communications, documentations, etc.”
Folk dances like Kalbeliya and Ghoomar of Rajasthan, Litho Shele Pheta of Nagaland, Sambal Puri of Odisha, Kushan dance of Assam, and Yoyo Gaga, Engo Didum Telo, Nero Aming and Pasi Kongki of Arunachal were presented during the three-day event. (DIPRO)
