ITANAGAR, Feb 12: Itanagar Capital Region Deputy Commissioner Komkar Dulom urged all the stakeholders to work together as a team to curb child labour in the state.
“We should sensitize the people about the negative effects and consequences of child labour, which is still being practiced without even realizing its consequences,” Dulom said during a meeting of the Childline Advisory Board (CAB) here on Wednesday.
Emphasizing on the need of creating public awareness about the services of Childline, the DC assured all kinds of support from the district administration to Childline for its smooth functioning.
Childline Director Father Cyriac SDB also stressed on the need of organizing awareness generation programmes, especially for the teachers, students, police and auto drivers.
Yupia district child protection unit’s legal cum probation officer Tarh Nagu highlighted the various shortcomings, such as unavailability of vehicle during rescue operations, to which the DC assured to look into it.
He also informed that the rescued children are provided shelter at Oju Mission and at Shishu Bhawan.
CWC chairperson Likha Asha informed about the cases that have been taken after she assumed her post in January this year.
The capital Dy SP updated about the cases referred by CWC and related issues.
As of today, the Childline Itanagar has attended to a total of 1578 cases of various categories, informed Childline Coordinator Peter Langpong.
During the meeting, various issues pertaining to functioning of the Childline, Child Welfare Committee etc were discussed by the members of the CAB.
Childline is India’s first 24 hour, free emergency phone and outreach service for children in need of care and protection and that any child or concerned adult can dial 1098 to avail of its emergency assistance. Childline reaches out to children from 0-18years of age and in extreme condition to young adult upto 25 years.
The Childline works for protection of children and if any call is being made to Childline for help, the team tries to reach to the child and provide rehabilitation and constant follow up.
In Itanagar Don Bosco Youth Centre is working as a collaborative organization for Childline.
