JULLY, Feb 21: The second convocation of the Himalayan University (HU) here in Papum Pare district was held on Friday with Education Minister Taba Tedir, Education Special Secretary Santosh Rai, Capital SP Tumme Amo, and PWD Capital Division EE A Tana Nikam Tara in attendance.
The ceremony was presided over by HU chairman Hemant Goyal and vice-chancellor, Dr HS Sharma.
Reading out the university’s annual report, the VC informed that 1702 degrees in different streams at the UG and the PG levels would be awarded this year, in person and in absentia.
“The Himalayan University is spread over 23 acres of land, with campuses in Chimpu and Jollang. The university started with 55 students in 2013-14, and is currently having more than 3500 students,” he said.
Tedir awarded the gold medals to the toppers.
In his convocation address, the minister highlighted the various schemes of the government, and said the present state government “is dedicated to enhance the standard of education, from the primary to the higher education level.”
Rai in his address advised the students to “focus on their target and work hard to achieve it.”
Amo spoke on the importance of discipline and health, and urged the students to refrain from using “abusive substances.”
