KHARSANG, Apr 18: The self-proclaimed general secretary of the Eastern Naga National Government (ENNG), Tujan Rekhong, who was involved in the kidnapping of a businessman from here in Changlang district and had managed to escape arrest, surrendered on Saturday.
Rekhong surrendered before Kharsang SDO Rakesh Rai, and was later arrested by the police.
Besides closure of all exit points, constant combing operation by the district police under the supervision of SP Mihin Gambo and DSP Tasi Darang compelled him to surrender, the police said.
Rekhong’s accomplice, self-styled ENNG lieutenant Arem Tangha, was captured by the police within a few hours of the kidnapping of the businessman on 16 April. The businessman, Narendra Agarwal, was rescued on the same day.
During preliminary investigation, the accused confessed to his role in the kidnapping.
Meanwhile, ENNG president R Stephen Naga in a press statement maintained that Tangha and Rekhong were not members of the ENNG.
“Without studying the background, ENNG does not recruit anyone,” he said.
