Govt urged to provide cash relief to BPL families

ITANAGAR, Apr 23: Former home minister and NPP leader Kumar Waii has appealed to the state government to provide cash relief to the people living below the poverty line (BPL).
Speaking to the media here on Thursday, Waii said the people of the BPL category “are facing acute problems.”
“The government says that it is providing ration items to them. But let me tell all that PDS items are not reaching the actual beneficiaries. Therefore, it would be better if the government offered cash benefits of around 5,000 to 6,000 rupees each to these people,” he said.
Expressing concern over the plight of the daily wagers, he said the extension of the lockdown has created “mayhem” in their lives.
“First of all, PDS items are not being properly distributed on ground. Secondly, just providing rations will not ease their pain. Reasonable cash relief should be provided to them by the government at the earliest. These people have to take care of the needs of their whole families,” Waii added.
