Plantation marks Dalai Lama’s 85th birthday

BOMDILA, Jul 6: Over 3000 saplings of Illicum griffithii were planted in West Kameng district to mark the 85th birthday of the 14th Dalai Lama on Monday.
The plantation drive here was headed by 12th Guru Tulku Rinpoche of the Thubchog Gatsel Ling Monastery (Lower Gompa), DC Karma Leki, and SP Raja Banthia.
Honoring the wish of the Dalai Lama, his birthday was celebrated without much fanfare in view of the Covid-19 pandemic. Instead, the mantra of Avalokiteshvara, ‘Om Mani Pedme Hung’, was recited for more than a thousand times.
The ceremonial sangsol and serkyem offerings, reception of the portrait of the Dalai Lama, mandala offering, and a brief talk on the life and teachings of the Dalai Lama by the 12th Guru Tulku Rinpoche were held while following the necessary SOP. (DIPRO)
