Promote forest and tourism sectors: DC

ANINI, Jul 6: Dibang Valley DC Minga Sherpa said the forest and tourism sectors could play an increasingly important role in the economic growth of the district in the future.
“Dibang Valley with its wide valleys and rivers has huge potential for ecotourism, and the future economy of the district is based on forest and tourism sectors,” Sherpa said on the occasion of the Van Mahotsav celebration here on Monday.
He urged all the departmental heads to educate their staffs about the importance of forests and wildlife.
The DC, who joined others in planting saplings in his office compound, advised everyone to not only plant saplings but also take proper care of the saplings.
SP Singjetla Singpho spoke on the importance of social forestry, and advised the villagers to not fell trees.
Stating that “deforestation is the key contributor to climate change leading to global warming,” he said “we as a responsible citizen can help tackle global warming by planting more trees.”
“With increasing population and fast consumption of natural resources, the forests and wildlife are at risk, which needs to be protected,” said DFO Suraj Singh.
He appealed to the people to obey the laws framed by the state and the central governments to protect forests and wildlife. (DIPRO)
