DA urges people not to circulate fake news, bans tobacco products

AALO, Jul 23: After 10 new Covid-19 cases were detected in quarantine centres (5 from ITBP, 4 from GREF and one civilian) on Wednesday, West Siang DC Moki Loyi has urged the people not to circulate unfounded and fake news on social media “without getting any official confirmation to create panic among the innocent people.”

With Wednesday’s count, the overall tally of West Siang is now 14, with two recovered earlier. All patients have been taken to the Covid care centre.

Also taking note of increasing tobacco consumption in the district, including by minors, the DA has banned the import and sale of all tobacco products in the district with immediate effect (u/s 133 CrPC, r/w Section 6 (a) of the COTP Act, 2003).

Selling of gutkha, pan masala, cigarettes and other tobacco products to persons below the age of 18 years has been declared illegal under the COTPA, and erring shopkeepers will be dealt with sternly by the police and the administration.

The DC has meanwhile relaxed the shops closing time from 5 pm to 6 pm in the evening at the request of the shopkeepers, and also to enable government officials on duty to get their essential commodities as most of them are unable to make time after office hours. (DIPRO)
