ZIRO, 15 Mar: The Lower Subansiri legal metrology & consumer affairs (LMCA) department observed World Consumer Rights Day at Dutta village here on Monday.
Ziro LMCA Assistant Controller H Atung dwelt at length on consumers’ rights and duties.
“The day is observed to raise awareness about a consumer’s rights and needs, so as to enable the consumer to fight against social injustices,” Atung said.
Educating the public about the consumers’ rights, Atung added: “Every consumer has eight consumer rights, namely, adequate food, clothing, shelter, healthcare, education, public utilities, water and sanitation.”
“To celebrate World Consumer Rights Day, each year there is a specific theme that addresses different concerns regarding all consumers. This year, the Consumers International has announced that the theme for the World Consumer Rights Day is ‘Tackling plastic pollution’. The campaign will raise awareness and engage consumers globally to adopt and promote more sustainable practices,” he added.
LMCA Inspector Rakesh Taksin spoke on weights and measures and packaged commodities.
In Tawang, the LMCA department observed World Consumer Rights Day at the Kyidphel VKV.
Addressing the students, public and shopkeepers, Kyidphel EAC Tsering Choden cautioned traders against violating consumer rights, while Consumer Rights Protection Forum president Tenzin Jordan requested students to take full advantage of the programme.
DCPO Kesang Tashi spoke on the various rights of consumers, and their duties and responsibilities. (DIPROs)
