APP arrests 22  including police personnel under Mission Drug-Free Arunachal

ITANAGAR, 5 May: The Arunachal Pradesh Police (APP) has arrested over 22 drug peddlers and recovered contraband from all around the state in the past few weeks under the ‘Mission Drug-Free Arunachal.’

Many arrested are police personnel.

Giving an overview of the cases, the APP PRO informed that three cases were registered in Tirap district on 4 May. In one case, accused Raatwang Aboh and Chow Anil Singkai were apprehended with 29.24 grams of suspected brown sugar. Accused Sanjit Singh was also apprehended and 9.26 gms of suspected brown sugar recovered.

In another case, accused Likrum Kamnok and Nyalam Hopa were apprehended and 604 grams of suspected opium (smeared in cloth) recovered.

On 4 May, the Tezu police recovered 400 grams of opium smeared in cloth and Rs 4000 in cash.

The police in Miao also arrested two drug addicts/ peddlers, identified as Bownong Singpho (28) and Yesho Yobin (34) and recovered approximately 4.73 gm of brown sugar on 3 May, and a case has been registered at the Miao police station.

In Namsai, 29-year-old Nang Anti Engling Sharma (Sanjana Sharma) was arrested with 1.37 grams of suspected brown sugar in two tobacco containers on 3 May. A local knife and cash amount of Rs 26,920, suspected to be the sales proceed of contraband substance was also seized.

On 2 May, four persons, namely Daniel Bori, Suraj Das, Mutum Biken Singh and Yumna Biju were arrested with 36.970 grams of heroin and Rs 30,000 in cash by the Naharlagun police.

Forty-year-old Phungtong Wangsa of Pongchau village was arrested and opium (coated in cloth) weighing 100 grams was recovered from his possession on 1 May.

In Kanubari, two drugs peddlers identified as Lempho Ponglaham (50) and Rangman Apesam (21) were arrested on 30 April, and three grams of brown sugar was recovered.

A case was also registered against Langkai Boham and others at the Kanubari police station on 29 April, and 3.5 grams brown sugar has been recovered.

In Itanagar, an IRBn constable was also caught with drugs by the public on 30 April, and 26.22 gm of heroin was recovered. One Ujen Tshechuk, serving in the 2nd IRBN and posted in Diyun, was apprehended by the public with a packet of heroin weighing 12.78 grams and another 10 filled vials weighing 13.44 grams. He was later handed over to the police.

On 29 April, the Changlang police intercepted one drug peddler Rengpa Mamai (35), working as teacher in a government school and recovered approximately 15 grams of suspected contraband drug, a mobile phone and a motorcycle from his possession.

On 28 April, the Changlang police arrested police constable Mingsam Ngemu (29) and Wintan Khimhun (50) and recovered approximately 35 grams of suspected brown sugar, two mobile phones and one motorcycle from their possession.

Earlier on 23 April, the Capital police nabbed two drug dealers with 199.66 grams of heroin Diwakar Kuli (27) from Bihpuria and Rahul Doley (34) from Lakhimpur with eight packets of contraband substance, two motorbikes and two phones.

All cases have been registered under various sections of the NDPS Act and IPC.
