ROING, 5 May: Villages Poblung-B, Poblung-C and New Poblung, under Dambuk circle of Lower Dibang Valley district have been declared as micro containment zones after 11 people of the area tested positive for the corona virus recently.

The declaration has come on the 7th day of the 10 days’ complete lockdown in the district.

Despite the intense lockdown, the positivity rate has not taken a dip.

According to the medical data of Wednesday, out of 142 samples collected on the day, 27 were detected as Covid positive. Sixteen out of these positives have been reported to be symptomatic, while the rest 11 are asymptomatic as of now.

Speaking on the current scenario of the district, Deputy Commissioner KN Damo said that “while the positivity rate has not gone down yet, it has not increased either, which implies that the lockdown is indeed working to an extent.”

When asked about any plans of extending the lockdown, Damo said that it is not in his power to decide but he will definitely put forward a proposal to the higher authorities regarding the matter.

The second wave of the Covid-19 has hit the district for just over a month now and it has already witnessed two deaths, and has 303 active cases as of 5 May, which is the second-highest number in the state.

Given the Covid situation here, if the lockdown is not extended, all the hard work put in by the police department, health department, DA and other stakeholders, including the abiding denizens to make the complete lockdown a success, is likely to go in vain.
