ABK youth wing demands complete lifting of parking charges

PASIGHAT, 7 May: The youth wing of the Adi Bane Kebang (ABK) has demanded complete lifting of parking charges for two- and four-wheelers in Pasighat market square in East Siang district.

The organization gave the East Siang DC 10 days to fulfill the demand, failing which, it said it would launch a “no parking fee abhiyan.”

Currently, parking fees are being charged at Rs 20 for four-wheelers and Rs 10 for two-wheelers on a two-hourly basis here.

The ABK had last year submitted a memorandum to the DC, demanding 50 percent reduction in the parking fees (from Rs 20 to Rs 10 for four-wheelers and Rs 10 to Rs 5 for two-wheelers). It also submitted a reminder to the DC in February this year.

When contacted, East Siang DC Dr Kinny Singh said “the decision of parking charges was made after discussion with the local MLA, officers and local organizations.” She said the parking fee issue is not the DC’s prerogative and is being dealt with by the Pasighat Municipal Council (PMC).

“There will be a meeting of the administrative officers, PMC councillors and NGOs and public leaders on Monday to resolve the parking problem,” the DC informed.
