Yomcha subdivision goes for lockdown amid sudden spurt in Covid cases

AALO, 15 Jul: Following a sudden spurt in Covid-19 cases in Yomcha subdivision in West Siang district, the people there have decided to put themselves under a weeklong lockdown, from 5 am of 16 July to 6 pm of 22 July.

This was decided in a meeting involving panchayat leaders, senior citizens, medical officers, government officials, and other stakeholders.

During the lockdown, “entry and exit of any person and vehicles to or from Yomcha shall be completely restricted; all shops and other business establishments shall remain closed; movement of persons in the town area will be prohibited, except for emergency cases; all offices shall be closed after 2 pm, except those on emergency and essential duties; and all infected persons in home quarantine shall follow the prescribed norms.”

All the gaon burahs have been asked to pass the regulations to the villagers and ensure their compliance. The chairpersons and gram panchayat members shall also make arrangements to ensure their implementation in their respective segments.

The Yomcha ADC lauded the locals’ initiative to go for a “self-lockdown,” considering the recent spike in Covid cases in Yomcha, as there is no facility there to treat serious patients and evacuation is difficult during the monsoon due to road blockages everywhere. (DIPRO)
