ITANAGAR, 29 Oct: The multistoried building of the DBT-APSCS&T’s Centre of Excellence for Bioresources and Sustainable Development in Kimin in Papum Pare district – the first of its kind in the Northeast – is likely to be inaugurated on 9 November by union MoS Dr Jitendra Singh, informed Arunachal Pradesh State Council for Science & Technology (APSCS&T) Chairman Bamang Mangha.
He informed that he along with MPs Tapir Gao and Nabam Rebia recently met with the union minister in New Delhi for the inauguration of the centre. Dr Singh is the union MoS (independent charge) for science & technology and earth sciences.
The Kimin centre, funded by the union government’s biotechnology department, is an integrated centre for performing cutting-edge basic research and translating it into reality.
“The objective behind setting up of this centre of excellence is to cater to the scientific needs of biotechnological intervention and research on developing bioresources for their conservation and sustainable utilization for improvement of the socioeconomic status of the tribal people of the state,” Mangha said.
The centre will also be useful in the exploration of fruit and organic food potential, and the diverse flora of the state. It will serve as a nodal point for collection and dissemination of information relating to biotechnology, Mangha added.
