285 air guns surrendered in Upper Siang

YINGKIONG, 16 Dec: A total of 285 air guns were surrendered by the people of various villages of Upper Siang district during an ‘Air gun surrender Abhiyan’ held at the multi-purpose community hall here in the district on Thursday.

Minister for environment and forest Mama Natung in his address appealed to the people to make the vision of air gun free Arunachal a reality. “Kandhe pe bandook lagake shoot karna choriye aur galein mein camera lagake shoot kijiye,” he said, while emphasizing the need to change mindset towards birds and animals.

Highlighting the importance of conservation of forest and environment, the minister said that birds play an important role in spreading seeds across the forests. The minister also commended everyone especially, those who have surrendered their air guns.

Speaking on the occasion, minister for health and family welfare Alo Libang stressed on the importance of maintaining the ecological balance and the need to preserve and protect the faunal biodiversity of the district for the next generations to come, or ‘else they would only be seen in paper.’ He also stressed on the tourist potential that such conservation efforts would bring for the district.

The function was organized by the office of the divisional forest officer, Upper Siang and attended, among others, by MLA Kanggong Taku, Upper Siang DC Taper Pada, SP Jummar Basar, ZPC Lumgeng Litin,  govt officials and PRI members. (DIPRO)
