AKA to celebrate silver jubilee

ITANAGAR, 1 Feb: The Arunachal Karate Association (AKA) will celebrate its silver jubilee milestone concurrently with the 25th State Level Karate Championship in the last week of the next month.

The celebration had been delayed by three years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Founded in 1994, the AKA is the oldest sports organization in Arunachal. Karate was introduced in the state in 1984 by Likha Tara and the AKA’s present technical chairman S Deben Sarmah.

The association has made a niche for itself in its long journey and has been able to put Arunachal on the country’s karate map. The state is currently ranked fourth in the national karate ranking.

Karate is also one of the most popular sports among the youths in Arunachal. The state’s karatekas have not only won glory for the state by winning medals in national and international competitions on many occasions, but also grabbed most of the sports quota jobs so far in various government departments, mostly in the APP. Some of them are currently serving as DSPs, while many are serving as teachers, JEs, and inspectors in the tax & excise department.
