ITANAGAR, 10 Feb: An online training programme themed ‘Incident response system-cum-tabletop exercise for earthquake scenario’ was jointly conducted by the state’s disaster management department and the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Thursday.
The programme was attended by members of the NDMA, the state disaster management authority (SDMA), DCs of all districts, district disaster management officers, members of the SDRF, the NDRF, the BRO, the CRPF and the ITBP, and other stakeholders.
NDMA member Rajendra Singh emphasized the importance of mock exercise, and commended the SDMA “for updating the state disaster management plan and training community volunteers.”
Disaster Management Secretary Dani Sulu presented a brief outline of the various steps taken by the state government with regard to disaster preparedness and response, while the NDMA joint advisor (IT & communication) spoke on the emergency response support system (ERSS-Dial 112) and the common alerting protocol (CAP) projects being implemented in the state.
An overview of the state disaster management plan, with special reference to earthquake, was presented by senior consultant Dr Bhupen Mili.
Representatives from the National Centre for Seismology, the Jorhat (Assam)-based North East Institute of Science & Technology, the SDRF, the PWD, the health department and the NDRF presented briefs on various topics related to earthquake preparedness and response plans.
NDMA consultant (ME & IRS) Sudhir Bhal imparted the training. He stressed on having a dedicated emergency operation centre, equipped with a robust communication system, to efficiently tackle any disaster.
