UDID assessment camp for PwDs held, 277 PwDs enrolled

PASIGHAT, 24 Feb: Altogether 277 persons had their names enrolled as persons with disabilities (PwD) after undergoing thorough medical check-ups by a medical board during a ‘UDID (unique disability identity card) enrollment-cum-assessment camp’ held at Bakin Pertin General Hospital here in East Siang district on Wednesday.

The camp, organized by the UDID cell of the health services directorate, was inaugurated by DC Tayi Taggu, in the presence of Joint DHS (T&R) Dr T Tali, DMO Dr R Tattan, MS Dr YR Darang, UDID state nodal officer Dr D Mindo, senior doctors and MOs of the district.

The DC handed over UDID cards and certificates, along with wheelchairs, hearing aids, walking sticks, etc, to the enrolled beneficiaries.

“Unique ID for persons with disabilities project is being implemented with a view of creating a national database for PwDs, and to issue a unique disability identity card to each person with disabilities. The project will not only encourage transparency, efficiency and ease of delivering government benefits to the persons with disabilities but will also ensure uniformity,” the DC said.

Dr Mindo informed that “disabled persons would avail pension, transport concession in government buses and trains and could apply for job quota, admission in various medical and engineering colleges, etc.” (DIPRO)
