ITANAGAR, 12 Apr: Dr Tanie Natung, professor and HoD of ophthalmology at the NEIGRIHMS in Shillong (Meghalaya), has been conferred the prestigious Sushruta Samman Award.
He is the first from Arunachal Pradesh to receive the award.
Dr Natung received the award during the 5th National Assembly of Forum of Ophthalmology Professors of India (FOPI) & Pan India HoD Ophthalmology Group meeting, held at Raigarh, Chhattisgarh, from 2 to 3 April.
The award is given to professors who are doing commendable work in their field.
Dr Natung was honoured for his “outstanding role
as a professor and ophthalmology HoD in teaching and training the undergraduate (MBBS) and postgraduate (MD/MS) students and excellence in eye surgeries.”
Sushruta Samman is the highest national award recognised by the FOPI in ophthalmology for professors with outstanding contributions to teaching and training and excelling in eye surgeries.
Prof Natung is also a recipient of the prestigious International Council of Ophthalmology Fellowship Award and the Delhi Ophthalmological Society Travel Grant Award.
He is an expert in phaco-refractive surgery and strabismus & paediatric ophthalmology.
Dr Natung earned his MBBS from the JIPMER, Pondicherry, and PG from the AIIMS, New Delhi.
