ITANAGAR, 27 May: Arunachal Pradesh has the third highest infant mortality rate (IMR) of 21 deaths per 1,000 live births among the northeastern states, as per the data published by the registrar general and the census commissioner of India.
However, the state’s IMR is better than the national average of 28.
Among the northeastern states, Assam has the highest infant mortality rate of 36, followed by Meghalaya (29), as per the sample registration system bulletin, 2020.
Mizoram has the lowest IMR in the country with three deaths per thousand live births. Nagaland, with an IMR of four, secured the second place, followed by Sikkim and Goa, having an IMR of five each.
Madhya Pradesh has the highest IMR in the country at 43, the data said.
