NAHARLAGUN, 13 Jun: Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) Mayor Tame Phassang inaugurated an ‘IMC kiosk centre’ in Ward 17 here, in the presence of IMC Commissioner Likha Tejji, corporators and ward members, on Monday.
Speaking on the occasion, the mayor said that people from Banderdewa, Nirjuli and Naharlagun had to travel to Itanagar for various IMC-related services, “which is a kind of problem, especially in the summer season, when landslides and traffic congestion are constant challenges.”
“Although this centre has been started in Ward 17, it is for all the public of the IMC jurisdiction, Indeed, if successful, we will try our best to create more such kiosk centres, so that the public would get the service on their doorsteps,” Phassang said.
He informed that the centre would provide services related to “paying garbage fees to avail services like renew/new trading licences, birth and death certificates, and all other services of the IMC.”
Responding to a query on the dilapidated condition of the Lekhi-Naharlagun road, the mayor said, “I have already expressed my resentment over the dilapidated road condition of the said portion of the road. It is the duty of the contractor to maintain the road until the completion of a highway project.
“Moreover, all the corporators were ready to take strong action related to the said road, but we have been informed that the maintenance work has been already started. Even I have personally inspected the road,” he said.
Arunachal Chamber of Commerce & Industries secretary Techi Peko praised the IMC’s initiative.
“Earlier, for every IMC business-related or other petty work we had to travel to Itanagar and had to face the traffic issues that not only consume our time but also a kind of aggravation; but now, with the coming up of such centre, it will definitely help hundreds of business community as well as common public,” he said.
