Siang river in spate causes flood in downstream areas

PASIGHAT, 17 Jun: The water level of the Siang river at Komolighat here in East Siang district is rising due to incessant rain, inundating many villages in Assam’s Dhemaji district.

The surging water of the river flooded at least 53 villages in Dhemaji, affecting more than 30,000 people.

Meanwhile, heavy rain continues to trigger landslides at many points along the Pasighat-Pangin road, causing great inconvenience to commuters.

According to the officials of the construction agency entrusted with the task of maintaining the road, landslides are occurring frequently along the road from point 0 km to 16 km point due to heavy and incessant rain.
