ITANAGAR, 28 Jun: A case under Sections 341/354/323 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code has been registered at the women police station here, based on an FIR regarding the molestation of a minor girl by her relative.
The incident reportedly took place on 14 June at IG Park, at around 10 pm.
According to a relative of the girl, who hails from East Kameng district, one Tai Kanam called up the girl over the phone on 14 June, telling her that her mother was seriously ill and was admitted at the RK Mission Hospital.
Later, at around 10 pm, the man reportedly took the girl to the IG Park area and raped her.
“The man also wrapped a piece of cloth over the victim’s mouth. Later, the 13-year-old escaped from the scene and, while she was running away, she was saved by two persons,” informed the relative.
Itanagar Capital Region SP Jimmy Chiram informed that “investigation has been carried forward and statements have been recorded from the victim.”
However, the SP refrained from disclosing more details since the matter is still under investigation. He said that efforts are underway to nab the alleged accused.
Meanwhile, Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (APSCPCR) Chairperson
Gumri Ringu informed that the commission has taken suo moto cognisance of the case and asked ICR CWC chairperson Likha Asha and an APCSPCR member to “take a proper update on the case.”
