Van Mahotsav: 1,000 saplings planted in Likabali

LIKABALI, 2 Jul: Around 1,000 saplings were planted in different locations here in Lower Siang district, and another 1,000 sapling were distributed among the people to mark the 73rd Van Mahotsav Week by the Likabali forest division on Saturday.

Lower Siang DC Marto Riba, SP Gothambu Dajangju, public and panchayat leaders, HoDs, GBs, senior citizens, and students and teachers of the government higher secondary school here, besides members of the Lower Siang unit of the APWWS, the Green Club, and various other organisations participated in the plantation drive.

An awareness programme was also conducted by Likabali DFO B Taba and Green Club president Gumke Riba.

In Leparada HQ Basar, the PHE&WS division, in collaboration with the gram panchayat, the people of Regi village, and the forest department, organised a plantation drive in Regi village under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), as part of the Van Mahotsav celebration.

Basar Forest Range Officer O Moyong Bam contributed 120 saplings.

An awareness meeting was also conducted to make the villagers aware of the benefits of afforestation.

Basar PHE Division ASW Moli Tatu highlighted “the connection between Van Mahotsava, JJM and catchment area protection,” while

PHE&WS AE Jumkar Basar spoke about the importance of protecting the catchment areas and the role of plants in water conservation.

Regi GPC Kenjum Taba Riba and HGB Nyai Riba also spoke.

The Dari circle administration in Leparada district also organised a tree plantation drive, in collaboration with the forest department, village authorities, gram panchayats, SHG members and students and teachers of the Government Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Avsiya Vidyalaya, New Dari.
