ZIRO, 4 Jul: Union MoS for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Sanjeev Kumar Balyan on Monday inspected several veterinary and fishery projects being implemented here in Lower Subansiri district.
The union minister, accompanied by the state’s Agriculture Minister Tage Taki and Lower Subansiri DC Bamin Nime, visited the free-range poultry farm in Lempia. The farm, named Ziro Bamboo Poultry Farm, has been established in a bamboo garden.
Interacting with the owner of the farm, he assured to assist in setting up a hatchery for the farm.
Balyan, who arrived here on a two-day visit, also visited
the Sikhe Lake project – the first artificial lake in the state and a significant water conservation project.
The team then visited the paddy fields to gather firsthand information about the integrated pisci-cum-agriculture paddy cultivation practiced by the Apatanis.
Balyan also visited the Aabasa dairy farm and the district pig breeding farm, and interacted with the doctors and the veterinary staffers at the district veterinary office in Siiro.
Later, the union minister visited the Tarin fish farm – the oldest fish farm in Ziro – and accepted a proposal for the establishment of a ‘Tarin aqua park’ in the fish farm.
Balyan was accompanied by, among others, Animal Husbandry Secretary Bidol Tayeng, the directors of fisheries and animal husbandry, and HoDs. (DIPRO)
