Striving to excel a part of growth: Sona

DBC College Week

JOLLANG, 12 Nov: Legislative Assembly Speaker Pasang Dorjee Sona advised the students of the Don Bosco College (DBC) here to “accept defeat with grace and strive to become the victor next time, as it is an important part of growth.”

Addressing the valedictory function of the DBC’s College Week celebration on Saturday, the speaker told the students that “we all have responsibilities towards our state and nation as the youths are the powerhouse of our nation and we should properly channel that power.”

He advised them to stay away from drugs “and too much of negative social media influence.”

DBC Principal Fr Jose George informed that this year’s theme of the celebration was ‘Never give up; your victory is right ahead’, and apprised the guests of the events organised during the celebration.

Social Justice and Empowerment & Tribal Affairs Director Yumlam Kaha, who also attended the function, asked the students “not to use social media in a negative manner,” and exhorted them to “stand up against the wrongs in society as students are the future of the state.”

DBC rector Fr CC Jose also spoke.

Taba Riagyo of Yellow house won the best volunteer (boys) prize, while the best volunteer (girls) prize was bagged by Pungam Rime of Red house. The best house captain (boys) prize was awarded to Gijum Bui of Yellow house, and the best house captain prize (girls) was awarded to Tana Metung of Red house.

Among the six houses, Red house was declared the champion of the College Week event this year. It was followed by Purple house, and White house. Red house was also adjudged the ‘best disciplined team’.
