DC urges workers to avail insurance facilities
ZIRO, 2 May: Lower Subansiri Deputy Commissioner Bamin Nime advised labourers and other construction workers to avail of “social security insurance facilities designed by the government for their benefit.”
The DC said this while attending the International Labour Day celebration organised by the district unit of the All Arunachal Pradesh Labour Union (AAPLU) here on 1 May.
Informing that “several LIC insurance policies with very low premiums of Rs 40 and 250 per month are available under the Jeevan Suraksha policy, the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, and the Atal Pension Yojana, which are affordable for the working class,” the DC said that “these insurance policies provide immediate financial benefits to workers in case of deaths and accidents while in the line of duty.”
Informing that the district’s labour & employment department recently distributed more than Rs 7 lakhs to children of labourers and workers for their higher studies, the DC appealed to them to “practice dignity of labour and cooperate with the district administration in proper garbage management in the district headquarters.”
“Several CCTV cameras have been now installed at key public places in the district headquarters, and garbage litterers will be penalised accordingly,” he said.
District AAPLU president Rubu Taka, APB&OCWWB Registration Officer Tage Tupe, and Apatani Students Union general secretary Pura Nado also spoke.
Awareness kits were later distributed to approximately 100 labourers and other construction workers of the district.
In Upper Subansiri district, the day was celebrated at the general ground in Dumporijo. Workers from government departments and from the private sector attended the programme.
Dumporijo MLA Rode Bui, who along with Baririjo ZPM Pongo Gongo and Gusar ZPM Jumli Dugi attended the programme, acknowledged the services rendered by labourers, and apprised the participants of the projects initiated by the state government for the welfare of the labourers.
In Upper Siang, Labour Day was celebrated by the district unit of the All Arunachal Pradesh Workers’ Union (AAPWU) in Yingkiong.
Health Minister Alo Libang inaugurated the office building and conference room of the AAPWU district unit, and lauded the workers for their hard work and dedication.
The president of the district AAPWU unit submitted a memorandum to the minister, seeking posting of a registering officer and other staffers in Tuting.
The state unit of the Northeast Petroleum Mazdoor Union also celebrated the day with the Indian Oil Corporation employees in Doimukh. (DIPROs, with input from our correspondent)
