Action needed against people giving communal colour to Namsai incident

In what can be termed an unfortunate incident of road rage that turned into a violent clash between two groups recently in Namsai forced the district administration to impose Section 144 CrPC in the district. Even though it was a clash between two individuals, attempts were made to give a communal colour to the incident. There were also incidents of road blockades which caused harassment to the people of Namsai and Lohit districts. The Namsai district administration deserves to be commended for promptly acting and preventing the incident from turning into a major clash between two communities.

The administration should take strong action against the people who attempted to give the incident a communal colour. Namsai is a very sensitive district where people of various ethnic groups live. Besides local communities like Khamti, Singpho, Tangsa and Adi, there are non-APST people also living in areas like Mahadevpur for ages. Even though peace is maintained, occasionally communal tension flares up over such incidents. Therefore the authorities should take a tough measure against people who try to give a communal colour to such incidents.
