TEZU, 22 Mar: The World TB Day was observed at the Govt Primary School (GPS) in Jhalukbari village in Lohit district on 22 March instead of on 24 March this year, as it coincides with Holi festival.
Besides displaying of banners reading ‘Yes! We can end TB’, a health awareness and sensitisation programme was organised at the school, during which DPO (NTEP) Dr UK Nath delivered a speech on TB, its management, and steps to protect oneself from TB.
Among other things, he highlighted the adoption of TB patients by nikshay mitras.
DRCHO Dr L Lollen dwelt on tuberculosis, immunisation, and a few other diseases, while DPO (DVBDCP) Dr S Towang delivered a speech on the importance of disseminating awareness among the general public and villagers regarding TB.
Tezu-based Zonal General Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr JS Bhomick spoke on “the global and national burden of tuberculosis, its preventive measures, and different health schemes.”
NGO Piramal Foundation’s M&E Biswajit Debnath and Jhalukbari GB Thanuram Das also spoke.
A letter of appreciation was given away to ‘TB champion’ Ajay Thapa. (DIPRO)
