HALI, 14 Dec: The residents of Hali village in Upper Subansiri district have agreed to donate community land in Lipo Modi area to the Upper Subansiri forest division for the creation of a wildlife sanctuary.
The decision was taken during a public hearing held here on Saturday. The villagers also submitted a four-point memorandum to the deputy commissioner, who presided over the meeting, reports DIPRO.
Earlier, Deputy Commissioner Tasso Gambo said that the public would not be forced to donate land for the project but would be asked to offer land by consensus.
“The district administration and the local forest authority are merely a medium of correspondencebetween the public and the government in this regard,” he said.
DFO Buken Pao explained the advantages and disadvantages of the project.
Officials of the forest department, wildlife activists, PRI members, and GBs also attended the meeting, the report said.
