ZIRO, 22 Feb: Forest department personnel from Aalo, Pasighat, Kamlang, Roing, Chimpu and Hapoli are participating in a workshop on ‘Application of GIS, remote sensing and GPS technology in forest resource management’, which began at Saint Claret College, Ziro (SCCZ) here in Lower Subansiri district on Monday.
The workshop is being organised by the geography department of SCCZ, in collaboration with the environment & forests department. The resource persons are Dehradun-based IIRS’ senior scientist Dr Kunal Kumar Das and faculty members of the college’s geography department.
The workshop began with a plantation drive in the SCCZ campus. Hapoli Forest Division DFO Abhinav Kumar commended the efforts of the college in providing quality education “and extending it to working professionals.”
SCCZ principal Fr Allwyn Mendoz exhorted the participants to make the best use of the available resources in order to upgrade their skills in the use of technology.
The five-day residential workshop is aimed at providing hands-on training to the frontline personnel of the forest department, and will feature theoretical and practical sessions.
