TAWANG, Jan 6: The Border Roads Organisation’s (BRO) labour union on Saturday organized a peaceful dharna here in protest against alleged violation of human rights by the BRO.
The union said that one Gaurang Nayak, who was working as a casual paid labourer under the BRO’s 123 RCC, died on 3 January while being taken to Tezpur, Assam, for treatment.
Although the news of his death was brought to the knowledge of the BRO authority, the body of Nayak is still lying in the mortuary, waiting to be handed over to his family, it said.
‘The BRO authorities are murdering human rights since long by refusing to claim deceased migrant workers and cremating them without any intimation to their families,’ the union wrote to Tawang Deputy Commissioner Sang Phuntsok, pleading for his intervention.
The union demanded that the BRO authority hand over the body of Nayak to his family and relatives with full dignity. (Tawang Vigilance)
