NAMSAI, Sep 14: ‘We should not limit our celebrations to songs and dances but more emphasis should be given on preservation of our cultures and language for which we have to create platform for the younger generations to participate and compete in such cultural item’ said Deputy Chief Minister, Chowna Mein during the Solung festival celebrations at Solung-Mopin Ground in Namsai district on Thursday.
Greeting the Adi community residing in Namsai district, the DCM stressed on promotion and marketing of the traditional arts and crafts in such festive occasions and suggested opening up of handloom centres for each tribe of the state to promote and market the finished products of traditional arts and crafts.
He further informed that research and documentation of Idu Mishmi healing system will start soon which may take two to three years to complete. He also called for documenting tribal dormitory system of Adi and Wancho communities.
‘The Director of Research has been asked to come up with more innovative ideas and proposals to preserve and promote rich cultural heritage of our state’, he added.
Attending the programme, BJP state President, Tapir Gao called upon the Adi community working in Namsai district to contribute wholeheartedly in the development of the new district into a model district.
Earlier, Namsai SDO, Orin Lego spoke on the mythology of Solung festival.
Prizes for various games and sports events held during the month-long festival celebration were also handed out on the occasion.
At Pasighat, the five-day long 51st Central Solung celebration concluded at Giidi Notko on a colourful note on Wednesday.
Addressing at the closing ceremony, MLA Kento Rina noted with pride that the young generation of the Adi community are equally fluent in their tribal dialect.
“Such enthusiasm and love for own dialect would be a great help in preservation and promotion of indigenous languages”, he said and lauded the progressive spirit of the people.
He also called for discouraging bandh culture as it affects the life and livelihood of common man and grass root people.
On the occasion, the MLA also announced Rs 3 lakhs for the protection works of the Giidi Notko and also made special mention of the people of Bogong Banngo for their contribution in the development of the centurion town.
A prominent entrepreneur of the state, Puna Hinda greeted the people on the festive occasion and assured his continued support for the promotion of the rich culture and heritage of the Adi community.
Earlier, Rina along with Hinda inaugurated the grand finale of Miss Lune 2017, the annual cultural event to celebrate women empowerment and the cultural spirit of the Adi community.
