NAHARLAGUN, Jan 28: The third edition of the Model Super League(MSL) football tournament was kicked off by TSEE CEO Techi Shakuntala Taying and former ASM Techi Tara at the Model Village football ground here on Sunday.
The league, organized by the Petwa United Football Club, was first held in 2016 with the motive of encouraging the youths to take up football, in order to instill discipline and promote healthy lifestyle.
The opening match was played between defending champions Commando Football Club and Black Warriors.
While Black Warriors largely dominated the match in the first half, Commando FC took the lead when Taba Taram scored a goal in the 20th minute.
Showing great leadership, captain Toko David equalized for the Black Warriors in the 30th minute.
Although both teams received several openings, neither of them managed to edge past the other in the second half, resulting in a 1-1 draw.
Later, the ‘man of the match’ award was given to Nabam Rodo of Black Warriors FC.
The next match will be held on 3 February between Athletico de Model and Commando FC, and another match will be held between Black Warriors and Petwa United FC at the same venue.
