PITAPOOL, Jan 28: The 18th foundation day of the Nyedar Namlo was jointly celebrated by the Central Executive Council Nyedar Namlo (CECNN) and the Pitapool Nyedar Namlo branch here in Lower Subansiri district on 27 January.
During the celebration, 10 lwngth nyub (supernatural priests of high order) – Tana Teti, Techi Rintu, Nangbia Taj and Teshi Tar of Doimukh (Papum Pare), Taba Modo, Nabam Nan, Taw Takap, Gollo Epo and Taba Taro from Yazali (Lower Subansiri), and Taba Nyeri from Model Village, Naharlagun (Papum Pare) – were felicitated by the CECNN with citations and cash awards in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the Nyedar Namlo movement.
Speaking on the occasion, CECNN president Nabam Atum said that the Nyedar Namlo is the only centre of Nyishi community “which is tirelessly working for the preservation and continuation of our age-old traditional faith and beliefs.” He called upon the well off indigenous people to contribute to the Namlo movement.
IFCSAP president Tajum Tassung advocated preservation and documentation of indigenous hymns, folklores and folksongs. Tassung urged the indigenous community to devote their time to strengthen the indigenous movement.
“Namlos are not only centres of promotion and preservation of our practices, they are centres where we propagate brotherhood, harmony, civic sense, self discipline, and cleanliness,” Tassung said.
Senior Namlo leader, Dr Nabam Tata highlighted the Namlo movement.
Among others, NES president Bengia Tolum, Prof (Dr) Tana Showren, Yazali ZPM Taba Tachi, and NIFCS vice president Gellom Lipin spoke on the occasion.
