ITANAGAR, 11 Jan: The Nyishi Elite Society (NES) has appealed to the All Nyishi Youth Association (ANYA) to call off its proposed 36-hour capital bandh from 13 January, saying that the issue being taken up by the association is not a (Nyishi) community issue.
The NES maintained that it would “not be responsible for any untoward incidents due to involvement of antisocial elements or external forces during the proposed bandh,” and urged the ANYA and the state government to sort out their issues through dialogue.
“We hope that (ANYA president) Byabang Joram being a matured youth leader of the community and also the former ANSU president shall definitely take positive decision in the greater interest of the community in particular and the state as a whole,” the NES said in a press release.
It said that it had held discussions with the ANYA twice last month and had advised the ANYA leadership to
not take up the corruption charges against the chief minister as a community issue.
“Issues that are not related to the sentiment and interest of the community should not be taken up without social sanction of the community,” the NES had told the ANYA.
The NES had also advised the ANYA to rethink its decision and said that, “if the situation warrants, the NES will make its stand clear to the people in future.”
“But despite our suggestions, the ANYA declared a 36-hour capital bandh from 13 January,” the NES said, clarifying its stand.
