Focus on public transportation

The state government is going to launch a luxury state-of-the-art bus service starting from 26 February onwards.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu dedicated 10 state-of-the-art luxury buses on Monday. The bus services will be launched in three phases, from 26 February to 10 March, and will connect Itanagar with Guwahati, Shillong, Miao, Tezu, etc. The buses will be operated on the PPP model.
This is a step in the right direction. Public transport service in the state is still very poor. Lack of availability of reliable transport service is a big issue in the state.
Hopefully, the launch of the state-of-the- art luxury bus service will be a boon for the public. However, the people who use these services also need to act responsibly and use the bus service properly. Apart from the long route, the state government also needs to look into the need for improving public transport in the district headquarters and state capital.
One of the main reasons for the ever-increasing traffic is the lack of public transport facilities.
People are forced to use their personal vehicles, thereby causing massive traffic jams. The state government should also explore possibilities of starting monorail, metro service, etc in the Itanagar Capital Region. These services should be planned keeping in mind future needs.
