ITANAGAR, 20 Jun: The 8th International Day of Yoga (IDY) will be observed across the state on Tuesday in a grand manner.
The theme for this year’s IDY is ‘Yoga for humanity’.
The day will be observed in all the district, subdivision and circle headquarters. In Itanagar, the day will be observed at the governor’s secretariat, the state civil secretariat, the police headquarters, the Itanagar permanent bench of the Gauhati High Court, and a few other locations.
Union minister Kiren Rijiju will lead the IDY programme at Dong in Anjaw district. Dong is the easternmost village in the country, near the point where India, China and Myanmar meet. It experiences the first sunrise in India, thus earning the nickname ‘India’s Land of the Rising Sun’.
Several dignitaries of the state, along with central ministers are expected to participate in an IDY programme in Namsai.
Meanwhile, Governor BD Mishra on Monday urged the people of the state to participate in the IYD.
He expressed hope that “this international event will be conducted at all levels, from state, district and block to
panchayat levels, in an impressive manner and motivate one and all to practice yoga.”
“I call upon all my Arunachali brethren to participate in the International Day of Yoga with zeal and zest,” he said. (DIPR, PIB & Raj Bhavan)
