Training prog on exotic vegetables

PASIGHAT, 4 Aug: Fifty-two farmers from Berung village in East Siang district participated in an ‘awareness-cum-sensitisation and training programme on introduction and cultivation of exotic vegetable crops’, held here on Thursday.

The programme was held under the Arik Abik Lunom mobile-based agro advisory services, and is being implemented by the College of Horticulture & Forestry (CHF) here.

The broad objective of the project is to provide right information at the right time and empower the farmers in taking informed decisions to enhance their livelihood through the mobile-based services in local languages/dialects.

The project is being implemented in East Siang, West Siang, Upper Siang, Lower Siang, Siang, Leparada, Lower Dibang Valley, Namsai, and Shi-Yomi districts.

The training was imparted by CHF Associate Professor Dr Saroj Kumar Pattanaaik and Professor Dr Pranabjyoti Sarma.

Dr Sarma educated the farmers about nursery preparation for vegetables, cultivation of exotic vegetables, and mulching, while Dr Pattanaaik explained “mechanisation of commercial vegetable production, and irrigation kits for kitchen garden vegetable cultivation,” according to a release.
