ITANAGAR, Sep 18: To mark the weeklong World Space Week celebration slated to be held from October 4 to 10 next, the State Remote Sensing Application Centre, in collaboration with the North Eastern Space Application Centre (NESAC), Regional Centre Department of Space Technology, GoI, Shillong conducted drawing, painting and quiz competitions for school children on September 18 at the Science Centre in Indira Gandhi Park, Itanagar under this year’s theme of ‘Exploring the new worlds in Space’.
Arunachal Pradesh State Council for Science and Technology, Chairman, Bamang Mangha stressed on the use of advance space application technologies to attend to the real problems of man and society at large.
SRSAC Director, Harekrishna Dutta explained how space technologies and data inputs are used in various developmental sectors, like agriculture, forestry, oceanography, climate change, rural and urban area mapping, monitoring, etc, besides space research.
He also informed the participants that selected quiz teams at the state level will be sent to participate at the national level completion at NRSC, ISRO Hyderabad.
The top three paintings of the day’s competition will be sent to NRSC, Hyderabad for evaluation and selection of a final winner at the national level.
In the quiz competition, Kendriya Vidyalaya-II, Chimpu, Itanagar won first place, while Vivekananda Central School of Vivek Vihar, Itanagar secured second position. Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya of Chimpu, Itanagar came in at third position.
Winners of the individual painting and drawing competitions were also declared on the occasion.
Activities like display of space video, demonstration of space gallery by Director, SRSAC and Science Centre, Curator, Dr Vevik Kumar were other highlights of the day.
