Power outages affecting exam preps

Editor,

The persistent power outages have become a significant hurdle for students and job aspirants in Yupia-II, severely impacting their preparations for various competitive exams. The frequent and prolonged blackouts have left the residents frustrated, especially as many aspirants are in the final stages of their preparations for national- and state-level examinations.

Over the past few weeks, we have been experiencing erratic power supply, with outages lasting for hours, sometimes up to 36 hours. The problem is particularly distressing for students and job seekers who rely on electricity to study late into the night, to access online resources, and attend virtual coaching classes.

The residents have apprised the department of their concerns, and also did their part by donating money for the purpose of maintenance, but the situation remains unchanged. The power outages have also disrupted daily life, affecting not just students but also small businesses and households. Many residents have resorted to using generators or inverters, but these solutions are not sustainable for long periods and take a toll on them financially.

The power department has cited technical issues and ongoing maintenance work as the reasons for the outages. However, I’ve noticed that these disruptions have been going on for much longer, despite us being tolerant and civic by generating donations for speedy maintenance. The sad part is that the maintenance work has only added frustration to our inconvenience.

Despite the assurances of the department, our sector remains sceptical, as previous promises have failed to yield lasting results. As the exam season approaches, the anxiety among students and their families continues to grow, with many fearing that their hard work might be in vain if the power situation does not improve soon.

The persistent power outages in Yupia-II serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by many, as infrastructure development has not kept pace with the people’s needs, and the demand for electricity continues to rise.

It is imperative that the authorities take swift action to address this issue. I request the divisional in-charge to address this issue promptly in order to facilitate the preparations by the aspirants.
