KARSINGSA, 19 Sep: Thirty farmwomen, most of them members of SHGs and the ArSRLM Borum block, participated in a five-day training programme on vermicompost production technology, which concluded at the Papum Pare Krishi Vigyan Kendra here on Friday.
Addressing the valedictory function, Senior Veterinary Officer Dr Nabam Tagi Hina advised the trainees to adopt technology and put it into practice for entrepreneurship development. He highlightedthat there should not be a social stigma on the use of cow dung, as it brings value to the farmers in the form of manure and vermicompost.
He also advised the farmers to grow local organic produce, instead of depending on products from outside the state.
ArSRLM Borum Block BMM Tapo Nalo urged the trainees to adopt vermicompost production technology, saying that he himself would monitor every trainee after the training.
Horticulture scientist Hemanta Ngangbamhighlighted the importance of organic farming, natural farming and climate resilient farming for soil, environment and human health. He advised the trainees not to depend on expensive and harmful chemical fertilizers but to produce low-cost manure like vermicompost for sale, as well as for personal use.
Agronomist Tadang Meena presented a brief on the training programme. She informed that the trainees were given theoretical classes for two days, and were taken to the low-cost vermicompost unit at the central livestock farm in Nirjuli, and to the NEIST centre in Naharlagun to help them obtain firsthand knowledge and undergo a practical session on vermicomposting.
Trainees Anita Tok and Hura Rupa expressed satisfaction with the programme, and thanked the KVK team and the ArSRLM Borum block for conducting the programme.
