TAWANG, 16 Mar: A capacity building workshop for beneficiaries under the Vibrant Village Programme (VVP) for the establishment of milch dairy units and fodder development in selected vibrant villages of Tawang district was conducted here on Monday.

Addressing the participants, AHV & Dairy Development Director Dr Danjan Longri highlighted the importance of strengthening dairy farming in the region and empowering local farmers through scientific practices and institutional support.

VVP state assistant nodal officer Dr Seba Yomdoinformed the gathering that selected beneficiaries will be provided with three high-yielding milch cows, fodder seeds, and bio-fertilisers to support sustainable fodder production and enhance milk productivity.

In his address, Indian Army Col Lokesh Sharma emphasised that the Army could serve as a reliable and assured market for locally produced milk. He noted that the Army requires nearly 15,000 litres of milk daily, which could potentially be supplied by local farmers if dairy cooperative societies and milk unions are formed and strengthened in the district.

The AHV & dairy development secretary stated that the workshop was organised to create awareness and provide preliminary technical guidance to the selected beneficiaries before the implementation of the scheme. On behalf of the government, he assured of full support to the farmers and encouraged them to adopt scientific dairy farming practices such as artificial insemination, improved housing systems, and better herd management.

Kyidphel ZPM Tenzin Monpa expressed gratitude to the government for selecting beneficiaries from the district under the VVP. He encouraged the farmers to make the most of the opportunity and highlighted that Tawang, being a predominantly Buddhist district with strong values of non-violence, has significant potential for dairy farming and livestock development. He also assured of continued support from the panchayati raj institutions in making the scheme successful.

The technical session of the workshop was conducted by National Dairy Services Technical Officer Dr Lalit Barot, who delivered an informative presentation on building a profitable dairy enterprise. His session focused on proper management of dairy cows, improved feeding practices, and the scientific care and management of newborn calves.

The programme concluded with the distribution of fodder seeds, bio-fertilisers, and certificates to the beneficiaries. (DIPRO)
