BASAR, 20 Mar: Training programmes on crop diversification was organised by the West Siang KVK at the ICAR Arunachal Pradesh Centre here and in Nyorak village on 19 and 20 March, respectively.
At the ICAR AP Centre, 23 farmers from Nyigam village participated in the programme. The event also included a live telecast of the inaugural programme of Bhumi Suposhan, aiming to enhance farmers’ awareness of soil health, soil-water relationships, and conservation agriculture practices.
ICAR AP Centre Head Dr Doni Jini provided an overview of the training programme, while KVK Head Dr Manoj Kumar emphasised the significance of crop diversification and the integration of legumes for improved soil fertility.
In Nyorak village, Dr Manoj Kumar highlighted the benefits of crop diversification over mono-cropping for increasing cropping intensity and enhancing farmers’ income through intervention of finger millet and green gram in the cropping system.
Soil science STO Wangnem Rekhung delivered a lecture on vermicompost production and application, while NICRA-TDC SRF Marter Chiram spoke on year-round cultivation of king chilli and tomato under rain shelter conditions.
A total of 28 farmers from attended the programme. Vegetable seeds were distributed to the farmers during both the programmes.
