ITANAGAR, Jul 17: The Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has said Governor BD Mishra on Tuesday assured an APCC delegation that he would look into the matter of the Trans-Arunachal Highway (TAH) compensation scam at his own level and would take it up with the Centre and the state government.
The APCC delegation had called on the governor at Raj Bhavan here, seeking his intervention in the multi-crore TAH compensation scam involving gross irregularities and corruption in payment of compensation to the beneficiaries of the TAH project in Lower Subansiri and Kamle districts.
The delegation, led by APCC president Takam Sanjoy, claimed that the Special Investigation Cell investigating the case “is not competent enough or is afraid to arrest the high-profile people involved in the biggest scandal in the history of Arunachal Pradesh.”
It urged the governor to direct the state government to either hand over the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) or to refer the case to the central government for a CBI inquiry to unearth the truth behind the multi-crore scam.
“The three people arrested in the case have been made scapegoats and it is just a damage control measure of the state government to protect their leaders involved in the scam,” it said.
The APCC also said that the fact-finding committee formed by the chief secretary and headed by the home commissioner to unearth the facts behind the allegation of irregularities in the TAH compensation package within four weeks “does not include the Potin to Bopi stretch.”
The governor acknowledged that “accountability, transparency, audit, and midcourse checks are important indicators for the development of the state” and viewed the matter seriously, the APCC said.
“The governor expressed deep sorrow regarding the rampant corruption in the state and said that the corrupt should not be spared at any cost, irrespective of any political party,” it said.
